We're a tortilla chip manufacturer that makes the tortilla first.
The chip you put in a basket at your restaurant starts as the same corn tortilla we have been selling to restaurants since 1957. We press the tortilla from our three-ingredient stone-ground masa — corn, water, food-grade lime — let it cook, then cut and fry it. That process adds one more step for us. It means the chip has the same character as the tortilla: real corn flavor, a texture you can taste, nothing added to extend shelf life.
The difference shows up in a salsa basket. A chip made from our masa holds up under a heavy salsa without going soft immediately. It has enough structural integrity because it was a real tortilla before it was a chip. That is not a marketing claim — it is just what happens when the base ingredient is made correctly.
Leal's chips are available in foodservice bulk boxes built for restaurant volume. Ask us for current case sizes when you reach out — we will match you with what works for your weekly use.
From our own corn tortillas Three ingredients. One extra step.
Most chips skip the tortilla stage entirely. Here is how we do it — and why it matters for what ends up on your guest's table.
-
The Corn
Three ingredients: corn, water, and food-grade lime. The same recipe since 1957, unchanged because there is no reason to change it.
-
The Stone
We grind the corn on volcanic stone brought up from Mexico — the same method since the Aztecs. That grinding is what gives the masa its texture.
-
The Chip
The corn tortilla is pressed, cooked, then cut and fried. No binders, no fillers, no preservatives. The chip is just the tortilla, fried.
Chips for Mexican restaurants: salsa baskets, nachos, migas.
These are the situations our restaurant accounts most commonly order chips for. The no-preservatives angle matters most in the first two.
Chips and salsa service
The basket that lands on every table before anyone orders. Guests pick up on chip quality immediately. A chip that holds up under heavy salsa and still has real corn flavor sets the tone for the meal. We hear this from buyers who switched to Leal's — it is the first thing their guests noticed.
Nachos
Nachos put weight on a chip — cheese, protein, toppings. The structural integrity of a chip made from a real tortilla base matters here. Ours hold up under a nacho build without turning into a soggy mess before the plate reaches the table.
Migas and breakfast service
Migas are scrambled eggs cooked with chip pieces, onion, tomato, and pepper. The chip is a structural ingredient, not a garnish. A thin commodity chip disappears into the egg. Our chip keeps a little body. A few of our accounts told us switching to Leal's chips for migas was what got them to switch for everything else too.
Pre-fried bulk chips that free up your fryer.
Our chips come pre-fried and ready to serve. Open the case, fill the basket — no fryer time, no oil to manage, no inconsistency between cooks. That frees your fryer for entrées during a rush, and your chips come out the same every single time.
Not many factories make bulk chips for restaurants. We do.
Plenty of tortilla makers sell tortillas. Far fewer cut and fry them into a wholesale chip built for foodservice. We have been doing it for decades, and right now it is one of the easiest wins a kitchen can make — consistent chips, zero prep, and a fryer that stays open for food that actually needs it.
Because frying drives the moisture out, the chips keep for 30 days on the shelf — no refrigeration, no preservatives. Order salted or unsalted, by the case. One case at a time is fine; standing weekly orders are better.

For high-volume kitchens that prefer to fry chips fresh in-house.
Preservative-free tortilla chips. The list is short on purpose.
Corn, water, cal, and frying oil. That is the whole list.
We do not add anything to extend shelf life or improve appearance. We have been making chips this way since before "no preservatives" was a selling point. It is just how corn chips are supposed to be made.
If your restaurant has a guest base that reads ingredient labels, or if you are supplying a school or institutional kitchen that has restrictions on preservatives, Leal's chips fit. Ask us about current case specs and we will get you pricing within one business day.

-
Where do Mexican restaurants get their tortilla chips?
- Usually one of three places: a broadline distributor like Sysco, Ben E. Keith, or US Foods, straight from a tortilla factory, or their own fryer using corn tortillas cut for frying. We cover all three. Your distributor rep can add our chips to your order, you can buy direct from us, or you can buy our pre-cut corn tortillas and fry them yourself.
-
How do your bulk tortilla chips come packed?
- In 13 lb cases, salted or unsalted. They're pre-fried and ready to serve, and they keep 30 days on the shelf with no refrigeration. You can order one case at a time.
-
Are you a tortilla chip manufacturer or a reseller?
- We're the manufacturer. We make the corn tortillas here in Muleshoe, Texas, then cut and fry them into chips ourselves. Sysco, Ben E. Keith, and US Foods carry what we make.
-
Do your tortilla chips have preservatives?
- No. The chips are corn, water, cal (food-grade lime), and cottonseed oil, plus salt if you order them salted. They last 30 days because frying drives the moisture out, not because we add anything.
-
Can we fry our own chips instead?
- Yes. We sell pre-cut corn tortillas in 30 lb boxes, ready for the fryer, with a 14-day refrigerated shelf life. If you'd rather cut them yourself, our Green Label corn tortilla is the thinner one we make for frying.
-
What areas do you supply with wholesale tortilla chips?
- Restaurants across Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, mostly through Sysco, Ben E. Keith, and US Foods. You can also pick up at the factory, 109 E Ash Ave in Muleshoe, Monday through Friday from 8am to 2pm.
